E-Mail services:

Email using your website’s domain name

You may prefer to have a cosmetically attractive and professional-looking email address associated with a domain name, for example: xxxx@mydomain.uk There are 3 options: IMAP, POP3 and Forwarder. We discourage the use of POP3.

IMAP account:

Emails may be downloaded from the email server to your computer; they are automatically saved on the server and the file structure on the server mirrors that on your computer's email client software.

Additional advantages and features:

  • Allows you to collect/reply to your emails from more than one device: for example your home computer, your smart phone or any computer when away from home
  • In the event of hard disk failure on your computer your emails are not lost
  • Allows you to access your email by webmail on the server

POP3 account:

Emails are downloaded from the email server to your computer; they are normally deleted from the server.

Advantages and features:

  • No worries about size of mail box on server whilst you continue to download

Disadvantages:

  • Emails downloaded on your computer are inaccessible away from home unless it’s switched on
  • In the event of disk failure your emails may be lost if you have not backed up
  • Less easy for Internet Results Ltd to move website / email account to different hosting

Prices:

Each mailbox using website's domain with 1GB storage:

£20 per annum

Additional 1GB storage per mailbox:

£10 per annum

N.B.1 Normal emails (without photo and other attachments) are very small – just a few kB (kilobytes) so the standard space of 1GB (1 gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes) allocated for the basic service is enough for over 40,000 emails without attachments containing over 2000 words each. If you are using the standard POP3 account, and you download your emails, the server storage goes down to zero. If you need extra storage space you can purchase it at £10 per 1GB.

N.B.2 Domain name: If you don't already have a website domain we may need to purchase one at a small extra cost.

E-Mail Forwarders:

They allow you to forward e-mail from yourname@yourdomain.co.uk to another email address e.g. yourname@gmail.com. We make no charge for these.

Other options:

Free Cyberspace Email

The best of these is probably Gmail

Some advantages

  • It organizes conversations into threads
  • Thorough malware and virus checking
  • Lots of email storage space
  • Excellent spam handling
  • It's "free"

Some disadvantages

  • Difficult to compose reply messages using a small screen
  • You get 'labels' instead of folders
  • It's really plain looking
  • "Free" means enduring tiresome advertising
  • Google "reads" your emails

Email address given by broadband service supplier

We suggest you do not use this option e.g. xxxx@btinternet.com. If you change your service provider you'll spend much time training your contacts to use your replacement email address.
